It’s ironic, really. I didn’t follow through on a review campaign titled Choose To Be Nice. It wasn’t because I didn’t like the product. I loved it, actually. It wasn’t because I meant to be dishonest when I agreed to do the review. Life happened. And, before I knew it, I had missed the deadline. I think it happens to all of us. We have the best of intentions, but we just don’t quite follow through. Well, I want to make this right. As “right” as I can make it when the review is over a year late. Yikes! Ahem! Even though the review is late, I do think that it is never too late to Choose To Be Nice. And that is what the campaign was and is all about!
I received a black T-shirt like the one pictured above from Choose To Be Nice. The founder, Dina Creiger, stated the following in one of her emails to me:
Choose To Be Nice is a movement dedicated to inspiring and encouraging kindness. When we slow down and recognize what is nice in ourselves we influence others to do the same. Our goal is to build a community of nice people who will share what they do on a daily basis to be nice. To kick start the movement, Choose To Be Nice has created t-shirts with the Choose To Be Nice logo.
I loved (no, LOVE) the shirt. I love the colors. The fabric is soft and comfortable. And, of course, I love the message! When I wear it, I know that big statement – Choose To Be Nice – is there for all to see. Although I to try to always be a nice person, wearing the shirt does remind me to be even nicer. If I get stuck in a long line at Walmart, I am much less likely to display “unhappy” body language when I’m wearing the shirt. If the clerk at a fast food restaurant messes up my order, I am much more likely to smile and say, “That’s OK. It happens!”
Another great benefit of wearing the shirt is that it does affect how others treat me, too. They see the statement and they choose to be nicer to me. I’ve seen it in a person’s eyes – an overworked and underpaid employee looks up in defeat – but her demeanor changes when she sees the shirt. It’s awesome.
Wouldn’t it be great if we all chose to be nice with or without the shirt?
